No one chooses to be poor or an orphan. These circumstances often happen beyond our control, yet we strive to make a difference,” says our founder, Tweheyo Simon. Simon’s journey to founding the Bwindi Community Kids and Children with Disability Empowerment Initiative began with a deeply moving experience during a visit to villages around the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
It was a sunny afternoon when Simon, guided by his passion for exploring and understanding the challenges faced by remote communities, found himself in a small village near the park. As he walked through the village, he noticed several children, some visibly disabled, engaging in strenuous domestic chores.
The children’s somber faces told a story of hardship and neglect. Despite their young ages, they were burdened with responsibilities that no child should bear.
